A LAND-BASED DAY

A day just to visit the beautiful city of Victoria today - and a beautiful day to do it. We have been here before, but it was decades ago, so it jogged a few memories.

Typically, we like "walking" any city we are visiting. We've walked 6 - 8 hours a day in some cities and feel that's a great way to get to know a place. Unfortunately, with my recent leg injury, my walking has been limited. It has only been the last couple of days that I have been able to walk without much of a limp, and it remains pretty uncomfortable even then. However, I feel it's good physical therapy and will, hopefully, shorten my overall recovery period.

Even under the circumstances, we walked at least 4 miles today and spent a couple of hours walking around the Royal BC Museum. We also visited the Craigdaroche Castle, so I think my leg will be ready for a day of rest tomorrow.

I'll review the charts and tide/current tables and check the weather forecast tonight to determine tomorrow's path. If things are favorable, we'll aim for Nanaimo - if not, we'll probably try to get at least as far as the Gulf Islands for the night. It will depend a little bit on how early of a start we can get. Although we are early risers, we are boxed in by other boats tied up behind us, so we'll have to wait for someone to move...
